Apple device users: Here’s why government wants you to update your iPhones, iPads and other gadgets – Times of India

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team under the IT ministry has issued a new warning for users of Apple products. The high severity warning is for users of Apple iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Apple iPad and Apple MacBooks. As per the warning, multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple products which can be exploited by someone to gain elevated privileges, bypass security restrictions, execute arbitrary code and disclose sensitive information on the targeted system.
The warning further reveals that “ Multiple Vulnerabilities exists in Apple products due to proper memory handling, state management, input validation, checks, handling of file metadata, state handling, bounds checking, locking, sandbox restrictions, access restrictions, permissions logic, execution of JavaScript in a scripting dictionary and misconfiguration in Bluetooth.”
An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by convincing the user to run a maliciously crafted application. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to gain elevated privileges, bypass security restriction, execute arbitrary code and disclose sensitive information on the targeted system.
Apple claims to have fixed most of the CVEs in recent updates for its devices. The updates were rolled out to the public this week only. If you use any of the products mentioned above, it is recommended to install the latest available update for them right now.
Recently, CERT-In also issued a warning for users of Google Chrome browser users. As per the warning, various vulnerabilities have been reported in Chrome browser which could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system. The company has also rolled out an update to address these vulnerabilities. Although the tech giant started to release the update last week, it was made available to more users this week.
